What to expect

Your first visit, step by step.

A first appointment is unhurried and straightforward. Here is how it usually goes.

  1. 01

    Welcome & paperwork

Arrive a few minutes early. Sandy or Shantell will confirm your details, medical history, and any insurance or CDCP information.

  2. 02

    Exam & X-rays if needed

A complete look at your teeth, gums, and jaw. Digital X-rays are taken only when they help us see what is going on.

  3. 03

    Talk it through

Your dentist explains what they found, in plain language, and answers every question you have.

  4. 04

    Your plan & next visit

If treatment is needed, you leave with a written plan, a cost estimate, and a next appointment that fits your schedule.

Be prepared

What to bring.

A few things that help your first visit run smoothly. Forgot something? Don't worry, we'll sort it out.

  • A piece of photo ID
  • Your insurance card or CDCP member details, if you have coverage
  • A list of current medications
  • Previous dental records or X-rays, if you have them
  • Your questions. We take the time to answer them

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes. We welcome new patients of all ages from Owen Sound and across Grey-Bruce, including families, seniors, and anyone who hasn't seen a dentist in a while. No judgement, ever.

What happens at the first appointment?

A review of your medical and dental history, a thorough exam, digital X-rays if needed, and a conversation about what we found. If treatment is recommended you'll get a written plan and estimate before anything is scheduled.

How long does a first visit take?

Plan for about an hour. If you'd like a cleaning at the same visit, let us know when you book and we'll reserve the time.

Can I transfer my records from my previous dentist?

Yes. Tell us the name of your previous office and we'll request your records and X-rays with your permission, so we're not repeating anything unnecessarily.

I'm nervous about the dentist. Is that okay?

Completely. Many of our patients felt the same way at first. Tell us when you book, and we'll go at your pace, explain everything before we do it, and stop whenever you need a break.

Do you see children?

Yes, from their first tooth onward. We accept Healthy Smiles Ontario, and we make first visits short, playful, and pressure-free.

Ready to plan your first visit?

Tell us what you need and we'll get back to you with a time that works. New patients are usually seen within the week.
